On the Ground Jury Badminton - 2014

Anne-Marie Taylor has been riding since she could crawl. Eventing has always been her passion, and at the age of 12 was representing her Pony Club at Area and National level.

Her first senior international ride came at the age of 21 when she was the youngest person to ever represent Great Britain at a World Championship. She achieved 5th Place individually on Justyn Thyme, the horse no one else wanted and which she had brought on from a problem Novice.

Anne-Marie left home at the age of 20 to run her own livery and competition yard so that she could pursue a career in Eventing. With no money, and only a small number of owners, she built up a highly successful business which she ran for the next 20 years. She taught, reschooled horses, including racehorses for trainers and for re-sale into other disciplines. She show-jumped up to and including Grade B level, and has competed in dressage at Prix St. George. Survival and success did not come without a price or effort: she sold on several top level horses, including Justyn Thyme who helped the German team win Gold at the Seoul Olympics.

During this time Anne-Marie represented Britain with success at Junior, Young Rider and Senior World & European Championships, as well as winning many National and International One and Three Day Events. She has also successfully competed and been placed on a variety of horses at Badminton and Burghley.

Teaching and bringing on young talent have always been a large part of her professional life. She was awarded her BHSI in 1994 and, in recognition of her standing in the Sport, was asked by Jane Holderness-Rodham that same year to join the British Eventing Training Committee.

On finishing her competitive career Anne-Marie studied to become a National Dressage Judge, and an International FEI Eventing Judge. She is now a List 3A National BD Judge, and since 2011 a 3* Eventing Judge, qualified to judge at the highest levels including the Olympics. She has judged at most British International Events including Badminton and abroad in Canada, India, Sweden, Ireland, USA, France, Holland & Germany.

She has been awarded the highest coaching qualification - the Event Fellowship of the British Horse Society in 2007 – becoming the third ever Specialist Event Fellow while at the same time being the first woman and first Brit to hold the honour and one of only 53 BHS Fellows in the World.

Anne-Marie sees the combination of her background as a competitor at the very top of the Sport, her teaching – encapsulated in her Fellowship of the BHS – and her judging as each informing and enhancing her other activities. This combination of expertise and experience makes Anne-Marie Taylor rather unusual in British Equestrianism.

Anne-Marie Taylor has also carried out a number of teaching visits, clinics and lecture demos abroad. On behalf of the FEI, she has travelled three times to India to be President of the ground jury and also hold a judging seminar, and to Kenya where she held a coaching clinic, as well as assess the viability of holding an FEI one star event.

In 2017 Anne-Marie trained and started to work as an Equestrian Expert Witness, being mentored by one of the countries leading Equestrian Expert Witnesses - James Mackie. She finds this a perfect use of her past 35 years of experience in the horse industry.  She is instructed for both the Claimant and Defendent (roughly 50/50) in Animals Act and Negligence cases and is often instructed as a single joint expert.  She also undertakes valuations. She is familiar with appearing in Court and being cross examined.
